Mailbombing is a No-No, no matter what level of aggravation you been driven to. Here are some of the reasons (taken from an article in the news.admin.net-abuse.* hierarchy):

  • It's just about the only thing on the internet that is both unethical AND illegal.

  • Email bombing is terminally stupid in any context. It DOSses [ed. note: Denial of Services's] your own address as much as it does theirs. Just ask your sysadmin if it's all right if you email bomb a spammer. If you're lucky he'll let you keep your account after a few grovels. If you don't bother asking him first and do it anyway, you'll quickly find yourself tossed out the door if you're lucky and reported to the police if you're not.

  • You're quite likely to email bomb the wrong site; witness the recent results of a "revenge" spam on joes.com - a spammer who had been kicked out of joes.com sent out a particularly obnoxious spam from ibm.net that appeared to advertise joes.com; a bunch of idiots responded by DOSing joes.com into the ground. They actually had to shut the entire domain down, and it tok some time before they could bring it back up. And this was one of the anti-spam sites!

  • Even if you manage to get the right site, you may well find out that the site is actually an anti-spam site and has already ditched the user - in which case you're just adding to the problem and doing absolutely no good and losing your account for nothing.

  • And finally, email bombing is a CRIME. That's right, you can actually end up in jail for it, and they won't give a damn why you were doing it.

  • Abusing the abusers is still abuse. And email bombing is far worse abuse than spamming.
